Mitch Marner’s Security Detail Goes Ballistic Against Maple Leafs Fan on Social Media | PFSN (2025)

Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has once again found himself the center of attention, though this time, it has little to do with his play on the ice.

Instead, it stems from an unusual off-ice controversy involving his inner circle.

What began as a small exchange online has quickly snowballed into a wider discussion among fans, raising fresh questions about how much support or protection star players should have away from the rink. And as with most things surrounding Marner in Toronto, opinions are sharply divided.

Did Rocket Security Cross A Line in Defending Mitch Marner?

Rocket Security, the company hired to protect Marner, has twice found itself in the middle of social-media disputes with fans.

The first flare-up came recently, after a fan made a critical post on the player. That’s when Rocket Security fired back, pointing to how genuine Marner and his family are off the ice. They even mentioned personal check-ins and small gestures that, to them, show his true character.

The account also took a number of shots at one Maple Leafs fan, going on a long-winded rant defending Marner’s character.

But this isn’t the first time Rocket Security has waded into the fray. Last year, the same account was caught clapping back at critics on Instagram. The comments didn’t stay buried for long. Screenshots made their way to X, where one reply stood out: “Who else steps up in the playoffs? I’ll wait.”

That line alone drew plenty of attention, as it seemed to shift blame toward Marner’s teammates. Another comment hinted that maybe one day Marner could end up playing in Utah, which only stoked the fire.

The tone of the posts left many fans divided. Some appreciated the defense, saying Marner has been unfairly scapegoated for Toronto’s postseason failures. Others felt the involvement of a security firm only made him look more insulated, as though he couldn’t face criticism without a buffer.

Marner in the Middle

For Marner, who carries a cap hit of nearly $11 million a year, episodes like these pile onto the scrutiny he already faces every spring. His playoff performance is constantly under the microscope, and now off-ice chatter about his camp’s online behavior has become part of the conversation too.

Those close to the winger have suggested that the relentless negativity became a factor in his eventual decision to move on from the Maple Leafs, as the atmosphere around him grew increasingly difficult to manage despite his strong production in the regular season.

The larger question is whether these public defenses help Marner’s image or hurt it. There’s no proof he directed the posts himself, but many assume Rocket Security wouldn’t act without at least some form of approval. In Toronto, perception often matters as much as results.

Playing in Toronto has never been easy. Every mistake is magnified, every storyline stretched a little further than it would be anywhere else. The Rocket Security saga is just the latest reminder of how closely Marner is watched, not only as a player, but as a personality in one of the NHL’s toughest markets.
