Iowa's loss last night to D2 Augustana will scare every coach in America. Remember: it's all fun & games until somebody loses a buy game.
Augustana paid for the win?

I noticed that too. You'd think a sports journalist would know how to spell bye.

I took it to mean Iowa attempted to buy an exhibition win and instead paid a D2 team to beat them.
Not unlike a lot of our failed attempts at non conference football scheduling and football game playing.

Totally serious question...did he mean they paid Augustana to come to play the exhibition?

Yes. This is how all one-off scheduling works (as opposed to home-and-homes). We paid GVSU to come for the exhibition too and we'll pay everyone we play in non-con at Hilton, except for Iowa because that's an extended home-and-home series. Cincinnati may be paying us to come there as well unless there are plans to bring them to Hilton in return (don't remember)

Yep, I've heard of those called "buy games" because you're basically buying a win. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work.

Gotcha. I hope Pollard checked with the GV St athletic department to see if there's also interest being a non-con football opponent. I'd even chip in for a cupcake or two to be added to the schedule.

I'll reserve judgement for after the ISU-IA game.
It would look awfully odd to see this thread if Iowa were to go into Hilton and punk ISU.
I don't know what Iowa's supposed to have but that's never a given for ISU to win.

If that happens then it'll be va P5 team upsetting another P5. Which is uncommon but not the albatross of a P5 losing to a DII team.

ISU does buy games for FCS opponents like NDSU and UNI, but our other non-con game (other than Iowa) is a home-and-home series. Some schools will fill those with buy games as well. But with Tulsa, and Toledo, and the series starting next year with San Jose State, we play one at Jack Trice and one at their place in the series.
Insert "cheap Pollard" comment here

What a bunch of dorks. Aaron White was a goober, but at least he showed some nuts. Woodbury, Gessel and Uthoff. You won't find a weaker senior trio in P5 basketball than those losers. LOL at Iowa fans thinking they had a real program.

Fran's having a hard time finding a replacement for White that can charge into the lane and throw up a wild shot like he did. It's vital to the Iowa offense.

The one about how they could've easily scheduled an eight win team and all that was classic.

I hope so - I spent some time manipulating this pic in Photoshop a few years ago.

If ISU loses to this Iowa team in Hilton it would bad news, probably because we would have more losses to go with it.
This Iowa loss is good for a chuckle. I think we are going to find out it wasn't an anomaly though. There is just no athleticism or leadership on that team and that can be a recipe for ugliness.
The Iowa team that gave ISU a close call in Ames 2 years ago would punk this Iowa team by 20.
I feel pretty comfortable about Georges blowing more kisses to Hok Fan after this years game.

This Iowa team is not a good team. And we've got arguably more talent then we've ever had here. If we lose to Iowa in Hilton, we've got bigger things to worry about than this thread being brought back up.
