Tips for hot days

  • Drink plenty: Water, unsweetened tea or diluted juices are preferable. Ideally, the drinks should not be ice cold and it’s best to avoid alcohol.
  • It is recommended to stay in a cool place indoors or in the shade. Cool compresses or foot baths can help with additional cooling.
  • It is advisable to wear light, airy clothing and a hat and to use sunscreen.
  • If possible, avoid physical exertion and exercise in the blazing sun. People who work outdoors should take good care of their bodies and be familiar with first aid. Signs of overheating are dizziness, nausea, headaches or cold sweats. In an emergency, one should inform the rescue service.
  • In hot weather, elderly people and people with pre-existing medical conditions, as well as babies and young children, are particularly at risk. They should be checked regularly for signs of heat exhaustion.
